"Learning for Life"
The mission of Vista de Las Cruces, a collaborative, historically rich community, is to guarantee students a safe and positive environment from which they will emerge as well-rounded, forward-thinking citizens.
It's time for a true "win-win!" Get great deals on popular magazines and raise funds for Vista Students to go on field trips. Magazine subscriptions make great gifts too. Your child can win some fun prizes on top of all that. You will receive a packet of papers explaining the process but if you really want to make things easy on yourself just go to www.gaschoolstore.com and use Vista's special ID # (2707206). Last year Vista Students sold a total of $4,299.92 worth of subscriptions with a profit of $1,759.96 going to our ASB. If our students beat these numbers this year then our principal, Mr. Turnbull, has to dress up like a bear. There you go students, you've been challenged!
Want to make ordering this year's school pictures really simple and convenient? Yes? Then ordering online is the option for you. Go to Lifetouch's website (mylifetouch.com) and use Vista's special picture day id (YG964810Y0). The online process takes just 5-10 minutes to complete and place your order.
Common Core State Standards
Vista's teachers have wholeheartedly embraced the transition to Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Besides continuing to gain a deeper understanding of the standards themselves, teachers are using programs such as College Preparatory Math (CPM), Engage New York Math, and Lucy Calkins's Writer's Workshop in their classrooms. We are also focusing on the 8 Standards of Mathematical Practice (SMPs) across the entire school Preschool - 8th Grade. Below are some helpful links you can use to learn more about Common Core yourself.

Since 2010, 45 states have adopted the same standards for English and math. These standards are called the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Having the same standards helps all students get a good education, even if they change schools or move to a different state. Teachers, parents, and education experts designed the standards to prepare students for success in college and the workplace. The assessment tied to these standards will be administered beginning in the 2014-15 school year. Please use the links below to find out more information about standards:
