"Learning for Life"
The mission of Vista de Las Cruces, a collaborative, historically rich community, is to guarantee students a safe and positive environment from which they will emerge as well-rounded, forward-thinking citizens.
The week of February 8 - 11, 2016 is Parent Conference Week. There will be minimum days every day, 12:26 dismissal. There is no school-provided after school care that week. Students in grades K - 5 will each have a conference scheduled. Your child's teacher will send home a notice. Students in grades 6 - 8 will have a conference on an as-needed basis. Your child's teacher will contact you if a conference is being scheduled. Child care is available on a sign-up basis through the Vista Volunteers. Click HERE for all the details.
The bus schedule for that week can be viewed by clicking HERE.

My hypothesis is that we will have some stellar science fair projects again this year.
Vista's teachers have wholeheartedly embraced the transition to new State Standards. Besides continuing to gain a deeper understanding of the standards themselves, teachers are using programs such as College Preparatory Math (CPM), Engage New York Math, and Lucy Calkins's Writer's Workshop in their classrooms. We are also focusing on the 8 Standards of Mathematical Practice (SMPs) across the entire school Preschool - 8th Grade. Below are some helpful links you can use to learn more about the standards yourself.
The Vista de Las Cruces Theater Department with director, Elizabeth Campbell, will be putting on another production this year! Sign ups and try outs start the week of February 16th and will continue on through the Spring every Tuesday and Thursday after school for an hour with extra rehearsals 2 weeks before the final show on May 19th and 20th. There may be a limit on the number of participants this year. Priority will be given to the older classes if necessary. We many call everyone for every practice. But rehearsals and attendance are mandatory when called. You may be asked to help with your child's costume. This is mostly a volunteer operation so please pitch in where you can. We will determine which play we will be doing soon! Join Facebook "Vista de Las Cruces Theater" page for updates and important information. We will send all future information via e-mail and via facebook page so check regularly. Cost for the program is $75. Checks can be made out to Vista Volunteers please. Contact Erin Pata (firstname.lastname@example.org) or text her at (805) 451-1016 for more information.
Thank you Jeff Bridges, Chris Pelonis, Kim Pelonis, Traci Collins, Vista Del Mar Foundation, and all the parents and volunteers who came through in a big way to make the January 15 Concert such a success for Vista's Children. It was the very best combination of teamwork, fun, hard work, and success. Please click HERE to see a local news story on the event.
