"Learning for Life"
The mission of Vista de Las Cruces, a collaborative, historically rich community, is to guarantee students a safe and positive environment from which they will emerge as well-rounded, forward-thinking citizens.
There's no better way for students to learn to appreciate nature than to get their hands down in the dirt and do some gardening with our Chief Gardener, Mrs. Thielst. These Kindergarten students are showing off the "fruits" of their labor.
There will be an All School Assembly on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 @ 1:30 in the Auditorium. The Vista Volunteers has arranged the “Alley Cats” to come present to our students. The Vista Volunteers arranged this FREE of charge. “The Alley Cats present an interactive, fun, and informative assembly - teaching students about elements of music and performance through one of America's own musical art forms: Doo-Wop. Since the Fall of 2001, the group has performed at over 2,000 schools throughout the United States.” You can check out their website at: http://www.thealleycats.com/arts-ed.iml.
If you would like to see the Practice Smarter Balanced Tests please click HERE. Students can take these tests on their own if they want. Teachers can display them to the whole class to discuss the items together. Students can work on the problems in cooperative groups. They can be used in any way that helps support our students.

Common Core State Standards
Vista's teachers have wholeheartedly embraced the transition to Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Besides continuing to gain a deeper understanding of the standards themselves, teachers are using programs such as College Preparatory Math (CPM), Engage New York Math, and Lucy Calkins's Writer's Workshop in their classrooms. We are also focusing on the 8 Standards of Mathematical Practice (SMPs) across the entire school Preschool - 8th Grade. Below are some helpful links you can use to learn more about Common Core yourself.
