"Learning for Life"

The mission of Vista de Las Cruces, a collaborative, historically rich community, is to guarantee students a safe and positive environment from which they will emerge as well-rounded, forward-thinking citizens.

LCAP = Local Control & Accountability Plan

California School's are now being funded under the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF).  The critical plan associated with this funding is the Local Control & Accountability Plan (LCAP).  You can find out more about LCFF and LCAP by going to the California Department of Education's website. Vista will keep you up to date on what's happening with LCAP here on our website so you can have awareness & input on the process.

1. A survey is being sent out to all Vista parents.  You will receive a copy from your child.  The hard copy of the survey was printed on blue paper.  You can return the survey to your child's teacher.  If can also access a copy of that survey by clicking here

Hands-On Learning

Vista Middle School Students have participated in some fascinating real-word, & hands-on, learning recently.  In January 2014 our middle school students visited the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles in order to bring history alive.  They also researched how buildings can be built to better withstand earthquakes.  Finally in January 2014 our middle school students worked with students and staff from University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) to build their own solar car.  Thank you middle school teachers Ms. Santos, Mr. Robertson, and Mrs. Blackwood for making learning engaging and meaningful for our 6th - 8th grade students.

Red Ribbon Week Aerial Photos

For Red Ribbon Week 2012, Vista's student body and staff dressed in red and formed the "V."  In 2013, we did the same thing for the letter, "I."  I bet you can predict which letter it will be in 2014 as we make sure we are a drug free one letter at a time.

State and Federal Accountability

Vista's performance on the state of California's Academic Performance Index (API) for 2013 is 911!

Vista met all required targets for the federal Adequate Yearly Progress Accountability System.

80% of our students scored Proficient or Advanced in Language Arts and 76% of our students scored Proficient or Advanced in Math.

You can view all of Vista's official accountability from the California Department of Education by clicking here.

School Accountability Report Card (SARC)

Since November 1988, state law has required all public schools receiving state funding to prepare and distribute a SARC. A similar requirement is also contained in the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act . The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about each public school. A SARC can be an effective way for a school to report on its progress in achieving goals. The public may also use a SARC to evaluate and compare schools on a variety of indicators.

Vista's current SARCs can be accessed by clicking on the link below:

Academic Standards

Since 2010, 45 states have adopted the same standards for English and math. These standards are called the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Having the same standards helps all students get a good education, even if they change schools or move to a different state. Teachers, parents, and education experts designed the standards to prepare students for success in college and the workplace.  The assessment tied to these standards will be administered beginning in the 2014-15 school year.  Please use the links below to find out more information about standards:
